BISHKEK. June 1 (Interfax-AVN) - Bishkek and Washington will soon finalize negotiations on the terms for further deployment of anti-terrorist coalition forces in Kyrgyzstan, says a Thursday statement issued by the presidential press service.
Negotiations on the Gansi airbase started in Bishkek on Wednesday.
"In view of the positive development of relations between Kyrgyzstan and the United States, the recently exacerbated situation in Afghanistan, intensified terrorism in Central Asia, the need to provide for peace and stability, and the sides' wish to reach a mutually beneficial agreement, it has been decided to finalize in the near future the negotiations on a new agreement on the deployment of anti-terrorist coalition forces on the territory of Kyrgyzstan," the statement runs.
"Negotiations on the further presence of the Gansi airbase in Kyrgyzstan are progressing quickly, and Kyrgyzstan wishes to find a constructive solution to the problem," the statement runs.
"The U.S. delegation handed over a personal message by U.S. President George W. Bush to Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev," the statement runs.
