Zvyozdochka plant allowed to engage in military-technical cooperation independently

ARKHANGELSK. June 1 (Interfax-AVN) - The Zvyozdochka ship-repair plant, located in Severodvinsk in the Arkhangelsk region, has been given the right to sign military-technical cooperation contracts independently for another three years, the plant's press secretary Nadezhda Shcherbinina said on Thursday.

The Federal Military-Technical Cooperation Service has issued a certificate of independent foreign trade in military-purpose products to Zvyozdochka, Shcherbinina told Interfax.

According to her, it is the second time Zvyozdochka gets such a certificate. Three years ago the plant was among the first Rusian defense industry enterprises to receive such a document.

The certificate allows the plant to independently sign contracts for repairs, upgrade and servicing of diesel submarines of Project 877EKM and destroyers of Project 956, as well as for spare parts and components supply for these ships.

"I am not only talking about cooperation with the Indian Navy, for which the enterprise has repaired and upgraded a lot of diesel submarines. We are discussing the possibilities of signing similar contracts with Southeast Asian nations and China," Shcherbinina said.
