MOSCOW. June 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Colonel General Evgeny Baryaev, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Interior Ministry Forces, has been appointed new commanding general of the Federal Joint Force in the North Caucasus. He replaced Lieutenant General Evgeny Lazebin, who is to return to Moscow to his former post of Deputy Commander-in-Chief/Chief of Combat Training Directorate, Chief of Russian Interior Ministry Forces General Staff Lieutenant General Sergei Bunin told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"Commander of the Federal Joint Force in the North Caucasus rotated on June 16. Colonel General Evgeny Baryaev, appointed new commander, has already assumed office," Bunin said.
He pointed out that it would not take Baryaev a long time to get the feel of the situation in Chechnya and other parts of the Southern Federal District. "General Baryaev took part in tailoring and training two police battalions in Chechnya. He stayed in Chechnya and other part of the North Caucasus for several months and he is well aware of the situation in the region," Bunin emphasized.
Baryaev was born in the Osh region in 1952.
He graduated from the USSR Ordzhonikidze Interior Ministry military college in 1972, the Frunze Military Academy in 1980, and the Russian General Staff Academy in 1996.
He headed the Urals Interior Ministry Forces District in 1998-2000, and the Moscow District since 2000.
In September 2005 he was appointed Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Interior Ministry Forces.
