Putin: Russia sincerely wants peace treaty with Japan (Part 2)

MOSCOW. June 27 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia continues to adhere to its basic approach and sincerely desires to sign a peace treaty with Japan, President Vladimir Putin told Russian ambassadors in Moscow on Tuesday.

"Concerning Japan, the policy of continuing the political dialogue and broadening economic cooperation justifies itself, coupled with the observance of our basic approach and our sincere desire to sign a peace treaty," the president said.

Putin also said that, the role of the whole of the Asia-Pacific region has increased noticeably for Russia.

"The maximum possible involvement in regional integration through its various norms and institutions, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Organization and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, is in our interests," Putin said.
