Rosoboronexport to sign contract on constructing two plants in Venezuela

NIZHNY TAGIL. July 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Rosoboronexport plans to sign a contact on building two plants, producing Kalashnikov assault rifles and rounds, in Venezuela in July 2006, Igor Sevastiyanov, head of the Rosoboronexport department for defense exports and Army armament imports, said at a news conference at the Russian Expo Arms 2006 in Nizhny Tagil on Wednesday.

"The plants will not be joint ventures, we will license them to manufacture Kalashnikov assault rifles and their rounds for several years," he said.

According to Sevastiyanov, dozens of Russian enterprises, including Izhmash, will take part in establishing the two plants.

Russian Expo Arms 2006 is conducted at the Nizhny Tagil Staratel firing range on July 11-15. The show is seeing participation of over 400 defense contractors and is attended by 44 delegations from 33 foreign states.

The show is sponsored by the Russian Federal Industry Agency and the Sverdlovsk region administration.
