ROSTOV-ON-DON. July 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The Kavkazskiy Rubezh exercise will involve refining an operation aimed at countering terrorist units, breaching the Russian state border, Commander of the North Caucasus Military District General of the Army Alexander Baranov told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"In the course of the exercise the North Caucasus Military District jointly with the Regional Federal Security Service Directorate will refine an operation, aimed at repulsing trespassing terrorist units," Baranov said.
According to him, the exercise will involve over 30 tanks, about 90 armored vehicles, in excess of 30 artillery pieces, up to 20 combat aircraft, and over ten helicopters, each of which will carry out several sorties.
The exercise envisions seven battalion-size tactical exercises with live fire. The exercise is also aimed at refining interoperability among various armed services and combat arms.
The Kavkazskiy Rubezh exercise started on Thursday and will be completed on July 27.
