Russian officials failed to coordinate route – Bezhuashvili

TBILISI. July 14 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili has confirmed reports about the detention of a vehicle carrying Lt. Gen. Valery Yevnevich, the deputy commander-in-chief of Russia's Land Forces, and Russian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador at Large Yury Popov, a Russian co-chairman of the Joint Control Commission on the Georgian-South Ossetian settlement, near the town of Gori, at a briefing on Friday.

"The incident took place. Russian representatives should have coordinated their route in the conflict zone in advance, in a fortnight," the minister said.

The minister called on the Russian side to refrain from uncoordinated movements in the conflict zone.

"All documents were all right, though military police still seize them referring to an order from the authorities," Popov said.

"Furthermore, we were offered to return to Tbilisi. Such a situation jeopardizes the holding of a JCC meeting scheduled for July 17 - 18 in Tbilisi," he said.
