G8 M. East statement not naming some countries on purpose – Putin

STRELNA (ST. PETERSBURG). July 17 (Interfax-AVN) - The Group of Eight resolution on the Middle East does not name a number of countries on purpose, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a briefing on Sunday in Strelna.

"This is our principal position. Should we lack enough reasons to accuse anyone, we will not make conclusions pass documents based on our suggestions," the president said.

At the same time, Putin said that Russia knows well the situation surrounding hot spots on its territory.

"When we have a look at what is happening there [in the North Caucasus], we know that some countries support extremists. And we do not name them before we have considerate proofs, which we may produce to the international community," Putin said.

Moreover, the Russian president spoke about the process of preparing a resolution on the Middle East.

"We agreed with our colleagues that [British Prime Minister Tony] Blair and I will take the initiative, we have invited experts who worked on the issue, participated in the preparation of a resolution and achieved an acceptable balanced and compromise wording," Putin said.
