Russian Airborne Forces being equipped with new D-10, Arbalet parachutes

MOSCOW. July 17 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Airborne Forces will have received about 8,000 new D-10 parachutes by the turn of the year, Deputy Commander of the Russian Airborne Forces Major General Vyacheslav Borisov said at a news conference at the Interfax central office in Moscow on Monday.

"D-10 parachutes have been fielded with five regiments so far. We expect to get 8,000 more such parachutes by the turn of the year," he said.

He also pointed out that the Airborne Forces had already received 35 new Arabalet parachutes, designed to be fielded with reconnaissance units. "One of such parachutes will be demonstrated at the world parachute-jumping championship to be held in Ryazan on July 19-30," he said.

He pointed out that the new D-10 will replace the current D-6 parachute in service with the Airborne Forces.
