Abkhazia ready to defend borders - Bagapsh

SUKHUMI. July 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Should the Georgian military violate Abkhazia's border, Abkhazia will respond with a shoot to kill policy, Abkhaz President Sergei Bagapsh said.

"If the Georgian military cross our border by even one meter, we shall open fire," Abkhazia's president told journalists in Sukhumi after meeting with an OSCE delegation.

"If Georgian forces come close to the Abkhaz border, this will become the first stage of a serious escalation of tensions," he said.

"Georgia has violated all agreements reached with the participation of international organizations," he said.

"Georgia's troops ignored the Moscow agreement "On cease-fire and the separation of forces" signed in 1994 and have shown a devil-may-care attitude to the CIS Peacekeeping Forces and the UN mission in the region," he said.

"Earlier, we repeatedly warned that sending illegal armed formations to the Kodori Gorge would have a bad outcome and demanded their withdrawal," he said.

"All these years Abkhazia has not allowed itself to violate agreements, now we shall take adequate actions," he said.
