Ukrainian Armed Forces to get new naval rescue assets

KYIV. Aug 3 (Interfax-AVN) - Ukrainian Defense Minister Anatoliy Hrytsenko has signed a decree authorizing the addition of new naval rescue assets and materiel to the Armed Forces inventory.

The list of new naval rescue assets and materiel includes the AKO-2000 high-speed rescue boat, AVA-2 air balloon, SP-100 hydro-acoustic station, MK-II mask and SK protective set for a wet suit, the Defense Ministry's press service reported on Thursday.

The assets passed commissioning tests and were found fit for use aboard the Navy's ships and in military units.

For instance, the AKO-2000 boat will be used in emergency rescue and diving units of the Navy. It is intended for supporting rescue operations and underwater technical or diving works. The boat's engine has a capacity of 190 hp, enabling the vessel to hit a speed of up to 40 knots and take 12 people aboard.
