Too early to impose intl sanctions on Iran - Ivanov

MAGADAN. Aug 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov has spoken against the imposition of UN sanctions on Iran because of its nuclear program.

"Speculations about sanctions [against Iran] are premature and inexpedient, to say the least," Ivanov told reporters in Magadan on Friday.

"In any case, Russia will continue advocating a political and diplomatic settlement of the Iranian nuclear program in full and strict compliance with all non-proliferation regimes and provisions of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty," the minister stressed.

In response to a question from Interfax-AVN, Ivanov said, "Tehran's response to the proposals of the group of six [the five permanent UN Security Council members and Germany] is being studied, because it is a rather lengthy document."
