Russian electronics are not competitive – Ivanov

MOSCOW. Sept 11 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian electronic industry is falling behind the world level, Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said.

"Our products are not competitive and do not meet the high demands articulated by our scientists and military involved in the development of final devices, systems and blocks," the minister said at a meeting of the military and industrial commission at the Russian government.

Participants at the meeting discussed issues of developing and producing Russian electronic products for military systems and complexes under the chairmanship of Ivanov.

The government developed a draft program entitled "The development of a base of electronic components" for 2007 - 2011 within the framework of the "National technological base" deferral target program in order to remedy the situation.

The program is a core of a draft strategy on the development of the electronic industry. The implementation of the strategy will allow the number of imported components in military and special equipment to be reduced by 50%, the defense minister said.
