Joint Control Commission to convene in Vladikavkaz on Thursday

MOSCOW. Oct 11 (Interfax-AVN) - The Joint Control Commission for settling the Georgian-Ossetian conflict will convene in Vladikavkaz on Thursday and Friday, the JCC's South Ossetian vice chairman Leonid Tibilov said.

"The JCC will convene in Vladikavkaz tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, as planned," Tibilov told Interfax.

Georgian representative Merab Antadze said on Monday Georgia would not take part in the Vladikavkaz meeting. Antandze cited tensions in Georgian-Russian relations and the suspension of air services between the two countries as the reason, South Ossetian spokesperson Irina Gagloyeva said after the JCC co-chairmen held consultations.

Representatives of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's mission had organized a charter flight for the Georgian delegation. A plane carrying Georgian delegates and OSCE representatives is expected to arrive in the North Ossetian capital from Tbilisi on Thursday.

The JCC plans to discuss joint efforts to draft a program for settling the Georgian-Ossetian conflict.

The JCC comprises representatives of Georgia, Russia, North Ossetia-Alania and breakaway South Ossetia. The Georgian, Ossetian and Russian peacekeeping battalions are under the commission's control. The battalions were introduced to the conflict zone in 1992.
