MOSCOW. Oct 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Participants in the command post exercise of the CIS Unified Air Defense System are rehearsing neutralization of hijacked aircraft and destruction of border trespasser planes, Lieutenant General Aitech Bizhev, Russian Air Force deputy commander-in-chief, said on Thursday.
"We have just simulated the hijacking of an An-26 plane from Kyiv's Borispol airport. Our fighters took off from Kursk, escorted the plane to the Ukrainian border and handed it over to Ukrainian fighters to land it at the departure airport," Bizhev told reporters.
"We work on the most pressing issues of today's world. These are issues of terrorism, and we pay special attention to them. These issues are the weakest link not only inside the country, but in the entire CIS," he said.
Participants in the exercise "rehearsed the destruction of single planes violating flight rules and state borders," Bizhev added.
Moreover, control over on-duty crews of adjacent nations participating in the CIS Unified Air Defense System was rehearsed.
