Nearly 34,000 Ukrainians to be drafted for active-duty service in autumn

KYIV. Oct 30 (Interfax-AVN) - As many as 33,903 citizens will be recruited for active-duty service during the autumn conscription campaign in Ukraine, the Defense Ministry's press service said on Monday.

"As many as 24,498 young men will be recruited to the Armed Forces, 5,600 to the Interior Ministry Forces, 2,000 to the State Fire-Fighting Service, 1,480 to the State Special Transportation Service, and 325 to the Ukrainian Security Service," a press service official told Interfax-AVN.

The autumn conscription plan has been fulfilled by 25 percent, while 86 percent of soldiers whose service term expired have been transferred to the reserve, he said.

The conscription campaign involves 24 regional draft boards, the Kyiv city draft board, the Crimean republican draft board, and 492 district draft boards.

The campaign began on September 1 and will last until November 30.
