BEIJING. Nov 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The Chinese Foreign Ministry does not yet have information either to confirm or deny that the North Korean nuclear problem will be given special attention at the APEC conference in Hanoi, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu told a briefing on Tuesday.
"We do not have information regarding preparations for a special session to address the Korean peninsula," she said.
"APEC's agenda focuses on economic cooperation. Issues related to politics and security are not raised," the Chinese diplomat said.
However, "all the parties concerned want the Korean peninsula to become a nuclear-free zone. We are working to resume the six-nation negotiating process as soon as possible," Jiang said.
"China has consistently backed plans to make the Korean peninsula a nuclear-free zone and to resolve all problems through peace talks and consultations. China's position remains unchanged," the diplomat said.
The Korean Central News Agency reported earlier that the United States was planning to deploy strategic nuclear weapons in South Korea.
