Russia may cooperate with China in space navigation system development

MOSCOW. Nov 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The Reshetnev Applied Mechanics Research and Production Association, based in Zheleznogorsk, the Krasnoyarsk region, is ready to cooperate with China in developing space-based navigation systems.

"If the Chinese side is interested in navigation system development, such cooperation is quite feasible as the Chinese space industry develops," Reshetnev Director General Nikolai Testoyedov was quoted by the association's press-service as saying on Tuesday.

The press-service said that at the present time only Russia and the U.S. independently pursued space-based navigation system development programs. The Applied Mechanics Association develops spacecraft for the Russian GLONASS global navigation satellite system.

On November 8-13 the Reshetnev Association took part in the Russian National Exhibition in Beijing, held within the framework of the Russian Year in China. For instance, the association displayed the new Express-AM33 and the Glonass-K spacecraft.

In addition to that, it demonstrated the Express-AT satellite, based on the modern Express-2000 heavy platform, the Luch-5A relay satellite, the Gonets-M low-orbit communications satellite, and ground-based transceivers.
