Army Central Command satisfied with anti-terror exercise in southern Russia

MOSCOW. Nov 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The anti-terror exercise, conducted by the North Caucasus Military District and units from other law-enforcement agencies in Southern Russia, has demonstrated a better level of anti-terror task forces, the Land Forces Command told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.

"The North Caucasus Military District and units from other law-enforcement agencies have successfully refined discharging a number of anti-terror tasks, including destruction of terrorist units in alpine terrain," an official of the command said.

According to him, the exercise was held within the framework of the anti-terror program, pursued by the North Caucasus Military District and units from other law-enforcement agencies since last week.

The official noted that the conference on anti-terror, held in Rostov-on-Don, had seen participation of general and senior officers from the Interior Ministry, the Border Guard Service, and other law-enforcement agencies, based in the Southern Federal District. The anti-terror exercise also involved units from an air force and air defense army, the Airborne Forces, and the Border Guard Service.

The large-scale anti-terror exercise was held in South Ossetia, Chechnya, Ingushetia and the Stavropol Territory on November 7-13. The exercise comprised two company-size and four battalion-size tactical exercises, with two of them involving live fire, as well as four flight exercises. The active stage of the anti-terror exercise saw participation of over 5,000 servicemen, 150 armored vehicles, in excess of 20 aircraft and helicopters, the Land Forces Command said.
