MOSCOW. Nov 15 (Interfax-AVN) - Export of international terrorism to Russia, particularly to the Caucasus, the Volga region, and Siberia, is continuing, Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev has said.
"According to available information, over 80 international extremist organizations using Wahhabism in their interests are pursuing illegal activities in Russian territory," Nurgaliyev said speaking at the State Duma on Wednesday.
The followers of Wahhabism in Russia are currently "united in 60 major jamaats numbering over 16,000 active members," Nurgaliyev said.
The activity of the extremist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir poses special dangers to Russia, Nurgaliyev said. As many as 45 cells with 247 members have been identified in Russia, particularly, in the Central, Northwestern, Volga, and Urals Federal Districts, he said.
