Over 370 terror emissaries extradited from Russia – Nurgaliyev

MOSCOW. Nov 15 (Interfax-AVN) - More than 370 emissaries of the Hizb-ut-Tahrir and Islamic Movement of Turkestan international terrorist organizations have been extradited from Russia over the past year, Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev said in the State Duma on Wednesday.

Law enforcement services "have disrupted the operations of the Islamic Jamaat secret terrorist group, which had cells in Tatarstan, Bashkortostan and the Ulyanovsk region," he said.

Any analysis of extremism and terrorism must take into account the flow of both legal and illegal immigration into Russia, Nurgaliyev said. More than 705,000 natives of the Transcaucasus region have arrived in Russia since 1992, the minister said. A total of 176 illegal immigrants from Central Asia, 41,000 from the Transcaucasia, and several hundred thousand from Turkey have moved to Russia's central part and the Volga district over the past decade, he said.

Law enforcement services of Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have established that "many of these people are wanted for their involvement in extremist and terrorist activities," he added.
