Georgia wants Russian peacekeepers replaced in Abkhazia, S. Ossetia

TBILISI. Nov 15 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgia will urge the replacement of Russian peacekeepers in Abkhazia and South Ossetia by an international police force at the upcoming meeting of the European Union foreign ministers, Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili told the press in Brussels.

Bezhuashvili said he had met with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's Chairman-in-Office, Belgian Foreign Minister Karel de Gucht, aide to the U.S. secretary of state Mathew Brayza and the United States' NATO Ambassador Victoria Nuland, and informed them about Georgia's proposals.

"We cannot put up with Russia's unilateral, dominant role in the zone of conflicts in Georgia and we want Russian peacekeepers to be replaced by an international police force," Bezhuashvili said.

"Approaches that would define real conflict settlement must be found in the OSCE and the European Union," the Georgian foreign minister said.
