ZARYA, Moscow Region. Nov 15 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Air Force Commander-in-Chief Army General Vladimir Mikhailov supports the State Duma's decision to reintroduce correctional custody in the Armed Forces.
"Young men with a lot of vices join the army nowadays, many drink and some even use drugs. At the same time, commanders lack efficient tools of influence over negligent servicemen, except for scolding them. Some commanders cannot take it and resort to beating, while correctional custody is, in fact, a small prison. Its revival will contribute to the strengthening of military discipline in units," Mikhailov told reporters on Wednesday, commenting on the law passed by the State Duma.
Asked by Interfax-AVN about the discipline level in the Air Force, Mikhailov said that "military discipline in Air Force units is the only problem left." "We are still on the level of 2005 as far as this issue is concerned," he noted.
