Russian law enforcement to get additional funding before year-end

MOSCOW. Nov 16 (Interfax-AVN) - Almost all Russian law enforcement agencies will get additional funding this year, a spokesman for the State Duma Security Committee, supervising these agencies, told Interfax-AVN on Thursday.

For instance, the Interior Ministry will enjoy additional 6.77 billion rubles ($250 million), the Prosecutor General's Office will get 219.7 million ($8.1 million), the State Drug Control Agency will obtain 144.4 million ($5.3 million), the Ministry of Justice will have 116.3 million ($4.3 million) and the Federal Marshal Service will receive 167 million ($6.1 million).

This additional funding of law enforcement agencies is regulated by the amendments to the federal law on the 2006 budget, now being prepared for the second reading in the parliament, the spokesman said.

The Interior Ministry is going to use the additional funding to equip district-level police stations (1 billion rubles ($37 million)), further develop private security agencies (980 million rubles ($36 million)), develop infrastructure of military units in the North Caucasus (419 million ($15.5 million)) and for some other purposes.
