MOSCOW. Nov 17 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Space Forces are planning to commission the latest radar in the southwest of the country in 2007, the forces' PR service reported on Friday.
This is one of the main goals set by Colonel General Vladimir Popovkin, Space Forces commander, at the latest expanded session of the forces' council, the report reads.
He said the radar is to be tested and commissioned before the end of 2007, it reads.
Among other priorities are "development of the Plesetsk cosmodrome infrastructure in the interests of the gradual transfer of military and dual-purpose rocket launchers to the Russian territory." This includes "flight tests of the Soyuz-2 medium carrier rocket with the Frigat booster, Rockot light space rocket, and promising military spacecraft," the document says.
The plans for 2007 also include boosting combat capabilities of the missile attack warning system's ground sector through commissioning commercial-off-the-shelf radars, it reads.
