MOSCOW. Nov 17 (Interfax-AVN) - On-duty forces of the space rocket defense army have detected 10 launches of domestic and foreign ballistic missiles and carrier rockets this year, Colonel General Vladimir Popovkin, Space Forces commander, was quoted as saying by the forces' PR service.
Popovkin told a session of the forces' council that "control over the orbiting of 75 spacecraft has been exercised."
As many as 42 spacecraft have been put under observation with the help of data from missile attack warning systems, missile defense assets and specialized space control assets. Thirty-four warnings of dangerous approximation of space objects with the International Space Station (ISS) have been detected, and termination of existence of 76 spacecraft has been controlled. The Space Forces also detected 105 maneuvers of domestic and foreign satellites. The number of spacecraft that have entries in the Main Space Objects Catalog has increased by 30 and now exceeds 9,150, of which 4,850 are tracked.
As many as 13 spacecraft launches have been carried out or supported in the framework of Russian federal space programs, as well as international cooperation programs and commercial projects. Two ICBMs were launched in the interests of the Strategic Missile Forces.
The Space Forces continue research, development and tests aimed at developing future spacecraft and armament systems, the service said.
