MAKHACHKALA. Nov 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Salman Bitsiyev, a resident of Grozny suspected of murdering Russian soldiers and taking part in an invasion of Dagestan in September 1999, has been detained in Chechnya, Interfax was told at the Dagestani Interior Ministry on Monday.
The man was detained on November 17 in a joint raid by local police and Russian Interior Ministry officers.
"It has been established that in September 1999, together with a militant group, he invaded the Novolakskoye district of Dagestan and took part in the murder of Russian soldiers on September 5, 1999, in the outskirts of the village of Tukhchar, Novolakskoye district," the press service says.
Six Interior Ministry Forces servicemen were killed then, the press release says.
Tamerlan Khasayev was sentenced to life for the same crime in October 2002, and Islan Mukayev to 25 years in jail in September 2005.
