MOSCOW. Nov 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Armed Forces Deputy Chief of Staff Colonel General Vasily Smirnov said that military commissioner's offices had drafted about 90% of conscripts for service in the Armed Forces and other uniformed agencies.
"Military commissioner's offices have already drafted over 87% of conscripts in the course of the ongoing autumn draft. About 15% of them, amounting to in excess of 18,000 men, have already been sent to military units," Smirnov told Interfax-AVN.
According to him, conscripts are sent to military units in strict compliance with the schedule, adopted by the General Staff. "We closely monitor the ongoing draft. Within this end in view the General Staff has established a special group, monitoring the draft 24 hours a day," he said.
He noted that the recent meeting of heads of mobilization bodies had focused on improving draft campaigns taking into account orders of the Russian defense minister on stepping up civil control over drafts.
Smirnov emphasized that the General Staff was working on establishing the so-called parental control over military service.
Smirnov underlined that a total of 123,310 men were to be drafted under the presidential decree from October 1 until December 31.
