Rosoboronexport brings order portfolio to $21Bln - head

MOSCOW. Nov 21 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia's state arms trader Rosoboronexport has doubled weapons deliveries to foreign countries over the past six years, Rosoboronexport Director General Sergei Chemezov has announced.

"On November 4 we marked Rosoboronexport's sixth anniversary. Effective marketing ideas have allowed the company to double its arms exports and bring its order portfolio to $21 billion. We planned for just $10 billion only thee years ago," Chemezov said in an interview published by the Rossiyskiye Vesti weekly.

The U.S. Congress recognized Russia's leadership in arms exports to developing countries not long ago. "In their estimate, Russia ranks first. Russia's breakthrough on the Latin American market, previously the United States' traditional market, is a victory our team can be proud of," he said.

Chemezov also said that a contract to export all kinds of armaments to Algeria, valued at $7.5 billion - the largest contract in the history of Russian trade - was signed in spring 2006.
