Russia to complete Tbilisi garrison withdrawal by Dec 25 – commander

ROSTOV-ON-DON. Nov 21 (Interfax-AVN) - Not a single Russian private, sergeant or officer will remain on the territory of the Tbilisi garrison after December 25, Army General Alexander Baranov, commander of the North Caucasus military district, said on Tuesday.

"The second train will leave the Tbilisi garrison for the 102nd base in Armenia on November 23," Baranov told reporters.

Other units will follow by rail, too. "A total of 97 hardware pieces, 353 tonnes of materiel, a bit over 350 servicemen, and 130 civilian employees are subject to withdrawal," he said.

"Servicemen will have no problems with housing - everybody will get some," Baranov noted.

According to the district headquarters, 84 servicemen need apartments. Thirty-one of them said they want to get housing certificates, and 53 said they wanted an apartment right away.

"There are no problems in withdrawing the garrison, there are no obstacles on the Georgian side either," Baranov added.
