Chaban to remain peacekeeping commander for six months

BREST, Belarus. Nov 23 (Interfax-AVN) - Major General Sergei Chaban's term as commander of the CIS Combined Peacekeeping Force in the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone was extended for six months at a meeting of the Council of CIS Defense Ministers, Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said.

"Members of the council made the decision to extend the term of Chaban's office for another six months," the minister told journalists.

The general has held the position since March 2005.
