MOSCOW. Nov 24 (Interfax-AVN) - The Federation Council virtually unanimously approved restoring the practice of correctional custody for infractions committed by Armed Forces personnel.
The bill amends the law "On military duty and military service," "On the status of servicemen," "On material responsibility of servicemen," and "On military courts of Russia" and the Russian Code on Administrative Offenses.
The military court at a base will rule on assigning serviceman to correctional custody. The maximum term of punishment will be 30 days.
Only enlisted men will be liable to disciplinary arrest. Women and officers are exempt.
The practice of correctional custody was abolished in the Russian Armed Forces in 2002. The senators welcomed the new law, saying: "It will contribute to the consolidation of military discipline and law and order among the troops and help eliminate hazing."
