Large-scale arms cache found at airbase in Moscow region

MOSCOW. Nov 24 (Interfax-AVN) - A large-scale arms and ammo cache has been found at the Kubinka airbase in the Moscow region, a spokesman for the region's law-enforcement agencies told Interfax-AVN on Friday.

"Three GSh-23 air guns, three 12.7-mm air machine-guns, and several dozens of various munitions have been found on the territory of a military unit organic of the Kubinka garrison. The cache was located 100 m away from an ammunition warehouse. The arms and ammo were in the ground at a depth of about one meter," the spokesman noted.

He quoted an expert conclusion as saying that the armament had been in the ground for about 10 years and was already rusty.

Checks are underway at all air ammo storehouses in the 16th air force army, the spokesman said.

The military prosecutor's office of the Moscow military district told Interfax-AVN that the find is being examined. "The decision is yet to be made whether to open a criminal case in connection with it," an office spokesman said.
