KOVROV, Vladimir Region. Nov 24 (Interfax-AVN) - The first ever parents' committee in the Russian Armed Forces has been established at a motorized rifle regiment of the Moscow Military District training center in Kovrov on Friday, Vladimir region.
"Nineteen parents of soldiers and sergeants who serve with the regiment were invited to the regiment. They appointed eight of them to be the parents' supervisory committee," Colonel General Vladimir Bakin, the Moscow military district commander, told a news conference.
He said that one of the parents will be delegated to the parents' committee of the district training center.
"Such parents' committees in all units to work jointly with the commanding officers of the Armed Forces will certainly have a very positive influence on the law and order in the forces," Army General Vladimir Isakov, logistics chief of the Russian Armed Forces and deputy defense minister, told a news conference in Kovrov.
He noted that parents' committees of units will delegate representatives to parents' committees of higher levels.
The idea was approved of by Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov and the state leadership, and is now being implemented in the Armed Forces, Isakov said.
According to him, parents' committees will also take part in a number of most important events to be organized in the units. "For instance, they will participate in summing up of combat training results and supervise and monitor the day-to-day life and service of the military jointly with the officers," he said.
"The need to improve control and supervision of the society over the Armed Forces is not artificial, but is determined by the requirements of the Armed Forces. Parents' eyes are the best inspectors," Isakov said.
