MOSCOW. Nov 27 (Interfax-AVN) - A South Ossetian village came under fire from the Georgian side of the border, a South Ossetian government spokesperson said.
"Automatic weapons were fired from the Georgian community of Eregvi at the South Ossetian village of Dmenis from 4:00 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. on Saturday," South Ossetian information and press committee chief Irina Gagloyeva told Interfax on Saturday.
South Ossetian servicemen did not fire in response, and the Georgian attack did not cause casualties, she said.
"The attack was aimed at destabilizing the situation in the conflict area, and therefore the South Ossetian side did not fire in response," she said.
The South Ossetian authorities were earlier reported to have taken increased security measures as Tskhinvali prepares for the inauguration ceremony of South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity later on Saturday.
Kokoity received overwhelming support in local presidential elections on November 12.
