MOSCOW. Dec 5 (Interfax-AVN) - Head of the Duma Security Committee Vladimir Vasilyev has noted that thanks to an appropriate government policy the rate of terrorist acts in Russia is steadily declining.
"This year the number of terrorist acts shrank by a quarter and as presidential envoy to the Southern federal district Dmitry Kozak has said the number of terrorist acts there has gone down by three quarters in the past few years," he said at a Tuesday conference on the mass media and counter-terrorism.
"This indicates that we have found the right approaches to the problem - legislative, law enforcement and economic," Vasilyev added.
He singled out the contribution of the mass media to the process saying coverage has been more balanced and responsible.
Vice President of the Media Union and head of the Public Chamber commission for the freedom of speech Yelena Zelinskaya agreed with him.
"Fundamental changes have taken place in the past two years and today no editor-in-chief will be irresponsible enough to publish photos of badly injured people, not only in acts of terrorism but also in other cases," she said.
