Two peacekeepers in South Ossetia abuse military vehicle

MOSCOW. Dec 5 (Interfax-AVN) - Two servicemen from the Joint Peacekeeping Forces in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict area, arrested by the Georgian police on Monday, abused military vehicles, belonging to the forces, assistant commander of the forces Vladimir Ivanov told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.

"The Joint Peacekeeping Forces command has investigated yesterday's incident. The two servicemen from the Ossetian peacekeeping battalion turned out to abuse the KAMAZ truck to transport a large batch of food supplies. Naturally, they had no corresponding documents for either the cargo transported or the truck itself," Ivanov said.

On Monday the Georgian police apprehended a KAMAZ truck, driven by two peacekeepers. According to the police, the peacekeepers tried to smuggle 85 boxes of tinned meat and 140 boxes of mayonnaise. The Georgian police released the two servicemen and the KAMAZ truck, confiscating the cargo, after the Joint Peacekeeping Forces officials had arrived at the scene.

According to Ivanov, the command took the incident seriously. He did not rule out the possibility that the two servicemen might have to leave the conflict area.
