TBILISI. Dec 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgian Defense Minister David Kezerashvili says that the possibility of a military aggression against Georgia is extremely low.
"The possibility of an open military aggression against Georgia is low, but the country faces many internal and outside threats," says the report, published by the Georgian Defense Ministry and stating the defense minister's vision of priorities and objectives for 2007.
According to him, internal threats include secessionist forces, Russian forces in Georgia, short energy supplies, arms trade, drug and human trafficking, natural and man-caused disasters, while outside threats comprise international terrorism, possible tensions in the North Caucasus, international crime, and proliferation.
"Developing the Armed Forces, meeting NATO standards and capable of operating jointly with Western armed forces if necessary, is a top priority for Georgia," the document says.
"In 2007 Georgia plans to continue its participation in international peacekeeping operations and contribute to combating international terrorism and establishing the world peace," it says.
