MOSCOW. Dec 11 (Interfax-AVN) - A serviceman of a Defense Ministry reconnaissance unit was wounded in a clash with unidentified persons in Chechnya's Shatoi district, a spokesman for Chechen law-enforcement agencies said on Monday.
"At 10:15 a.m. Moscow time (0715 GMT) last Saturday, unidentified persons opened assault rifle fire on Defense Ministry servicemen during a search and reconnaissance mission. A contract serviceman was wounded in the incident," the spokesman told Interfax-AVN.
The serviceman was taken to hospital, and the search for the militants was launched, he said.
A militant accomplice was detained in the village of Germenchuk in the Shatoi district, the spokesman went on. The man took part in acquiring and storing arms, ammo and foodstuffs for the Avdorkhanov gang from March 2002 to September 2005. The detainee's involvement in grave crimes is being checked.
Another militant, a resident of the Pobedinskoye village, turned himself in to an on-duty police station in the Grozny rural district. He confessed in being a member of the Bakuyev gang from October 1999 to March 2000. An investigation into his actions is underway.
