Russian-Indian commission discusses military-technical cooperation issues – Ivanov

NEW DELHI. Jan 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said that the Wednesday session of the Russian-Indian intergovernmental commission on military-technical cooperation addressed possible supplies of MiG-35 fighters and their licensed production in India.

"Moreover, we considered continuation of work in the framework of the BrahMos project aimed at designing and manufacturing a next-generation efficient cruise missile, as well as joint development and production of a fifth-generation warplane, and repairs and re-equipment of the Admiral Gorshkov heavy aircraft carrier," Ivanov told a news conference in New Delhi.

"We believe that it is time to start drafting a Russian-Indian military-technical cooperation program for the period beyond 2010," he said.

"I can assure you that Russia does its best to develop all components of Russian-Indian interaction, not only the military field, as many believe," he noted.

"The itinerary of my further stay in India is a confirmation of that, too," he said.

The deputy prime minister noted that the itinerary is very intense and includes meetings with the Indian prime minister, his national security adviser and the foreign minister.
