Russian Strategic Missile Forces note better quality of conscripts

MOSCOW. Jan 30 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Strategic Missile Forces have summed up the results of a psychological examination of autumn conscripts, the forces' Public Information Service told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.

"The draft plan has been fulfilled by 100%. Units are manned with conscripts by 98%," a service official said.

According to him, the quality of draftees slightly improved y-o-y 2005. For instance, the number of conscripts without high school education decreased by 8.1%, the number of unemployed draftees reduced by 3.9%, and the number of inductees with previous run-ins with law-enforcement agencies dropped by 2%.

Twenty-one percent of conscripts, drafted in autumn 2006, were brought up in families with only one parent, which is 3.9% lower as compared with the previous draft. Almost 2% of inductees are orphans.

The official stated that in February-March military units would select draftees for service in security units. "They have to meet tougher psychological and health requirements," he said.
