Federation Council approves amendments on status of intelligence officers

MOSCOW. Feb 2 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Federation Council approved amendments to the law on foreign intelligence concerning the status of its employees.

Under the amendments, a foreign intelligence officer can only be a Russian citizen, said Deputy Chairman of Federation Council's Security Committee Alexei Aleksandrov.

In addition, foreign intelligence employees are forbidden to possess the citizenship of any other state, may not participate in political activity, must submit to fingerprinting, and so on.

"All of these measures existed earlier under presidential decrees and other acts, and now they will have the status of law," he said.
