TBILISI. March 9 (Interfax-AVN) - The Georgian military will begin calling up all men aged between 27 and 40 at the end of spring, regardless of whether they had served in the army or not.
Speaking at the parliament on Friday, the Commander of the National Guard of the Georgian Defense Ministry Nika Dzhandzhgava asked MPs to support amendments to the Law on Reservists, which suggests dividing reservists into three categories: active, guardian and individual.
Men who have served in the Army will be enrolled as active reservists, those who did not will be classified as individual reservists, and guardian reservists will be "those selected on a regional basis."
The Law on Reservists provides for 18 days of intensive military training for each reservist. During this period the reservist will retain his job and salary at both public and private institutions.
For men who never served in the army, completing three courses of reservist training will be equivalent to compulsory military service.
