Nakhimov Naval College chief dismissed

ST. PETERSBURG/MOSCOW. March 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov has dismissed Nakhimov Naval College chief Rear Admiral Alexander Bukin for flaws in the organization of the cadets' training and welfare, the Leningrad naval base command told Interfax on Wednesday.

"This severe disciplinary measure followed a surprise inspection of the college by Anatoly Serdyukov last week, after he took part in a meeting of the Military Industrial Commission in St. Petersburg," the command source said.

"The minister entered the building not through the central entrance, where he was expected, but through the backdoor, where trash containers are installed and where food is stored," he said.

"During his snap visit, Serdyukov discovered horribly inadequate sanitary arrangements, damp college cadets' rooms, water in the basement, fungi on the walls, and crumbling plaster," he said.

While in St. Petersburg, Serdyukov also visited the Suvorov Military College and discovered no significant flaws there.
