Masterminds of McDonalds blast suspected of other terror acts in St. Petersburg - prosecutor

ST. PETERSBURG. March 30 (Interfax-AVN) - The persons identified during an investigation into a McDonalds restaurant explosion in downtown St. Petersburg are suspected of plotting a series of other terrorist attacks in the city's public venues, Sergei Bednichenko, director of the Prosecutor General Office's branch for the Northwestern Federal District, said on Friday.

It has been established during the inquiry that their activities were aimed at undermining social security, intimidating the population and trying to influence the decision-making by local authorities, he said.

"The terrorist attacks were prevented as a result of carefully planned and rapid investigative operations. It has already been established that these persons were involved in other extremism-related crimes," he said.
