One militant killed, other blasted himself during police operations in Chechnya

MOSCOW. April 5 (Interfax-AVN) - A militant was shot dead in the Leninsky district of Chechnya's capital Grozny, who refused to give up when the local police tried to apprehend him, a law enforcement official told Interfax-AVN on Thursday.

"The militant started firing when the police tried to detain him, and was killed in a shoot out. The police seized a pistol and a hand grenade on him," he said.

He added that another armed militant was detected during a sweep in the forest in the vicinity of the Sadovoye village in the Grozny district. He blasted himself with an improvised explosive device when the police tried to capture him, and died of the wounds. He was carrying two Kalashnikov assault rifles, a Makarov pistol and an unguided rocket projectile. The remains are being identified.
