MOSCOW. April 27 (Interfax-AVN) - Colonel General Alexander Postnikov has been appointed new commander of the Siberian Military District, the Siberian Military District Public Information Service said.
"Postnikov has succeeded General of the Army Nikolai Makarov, who has been appointed Chief of the Armament Directorate/Deputy Defense Minister for Armament," it told Interfax-AVN on Friday.
Postnikov was born in the Krasnodar Territory in 1957.
He graduated from the Kyiv Advanced Joint Arms School in 1978, the Frunze Military Academy in 1988, and the General Staff Academy in 2000.
He served in the Kyiv, the Odessa, the Far East, the Moscow, the North Caucasus, and the Siberian military districts, as well as the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany. In 2004-2006 he served as chief of staff/deputy commander of the North Caucasus Military District, while in December 2006 he was appointed chief of staff/deputy commander of the Siberian Military District.
