France to fund environmental monitoring effort in Shchuchye

MOSCOW. April 28 (Interfax-AVN) - France is making available six million euro for the creation of a system to monitor the environment at a facility for the disposal of chemical weapons in Shchuchye in the Kurgan region.

"In the framework of an intergovernmental agreement between France and Russia that is to come into force soon, France is allocating six million euro for the creation of a system of environmental monitoring for a safe launch of the facility for the disposal of chemical weapons," the press service of the French embassy in Moscow told Interfax on Friday.

"In addition, seeking to contribute to the project to build a second line for the disposal of chemical weapons, a project led by the United Kingdom, France has promised to make available 6 million euro," the press service said.

"To this aim, France exchanged diplomatic notes with the United Kingdom this week, were conditions for the cooperation are set out," the press service said.
