ALMATY. May 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Kazakhstan's Armed Forces will be equipped with both Russian and other countries' weaponry and hardware, Kazakh Defense Minister Danial Akhmetov said.
"We are now making steps to diversify sources of weapons. We want our army to be highly mobile and to meet world standards," the defense minister said in an interview with the Astana television channel published in the Central Asia Monitor on Friday.
"In 2007, we entered into an agreement with Israel regarding multiple launch rocket systems, which will be manufactured at our factories. We are getting access to modern technologies from there, and it will be a qualitatively new step in creating a military-industrial complex," he said.
The minister added that currently Kazakhstan is "a few steps away from signing contracts with more foreign companies that are leaders in their field."
