MOSCOW. May 29 (Interfax-AVN) - The construction of a new generation aircraft carrier was the main item on the agenda of the meeting of leaders of Navy scientific branch and the shipbuilding industry of Russia, which was presided over by Fleet Admiral Vladimir Masorin, the commander of the Navy, Captain 1st Rank Igor Dygalo, an assistant to the navy commander, told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.
"The participants in the meeting agreed that it is necessary that the Russian Navy has aircraft carriers in its fleet. The expertise of foreign navies is a good proof to that effect," he said.
It was also mentioned during the meeting that the state of the present-day science and industry in Russia, as well as their anticipated future capabilities allow developing and building such a technologically advanced and complex ship as an aircraft carrier, Dygalo said.
"Such a ship in the Russian Navy inventory will undoubtedly raise Russia's authority as a world sea power, which is in line with what is set forth in the Naval Doctrine of the country," he emphasized.
The meeting was held at St. Petersburg-based 1st central research and development institute of the Russian Defense Ministry on Tuesday.
